PRESSURE TREATED
WOOD
Although pressure treated woods require no maintenance to preserve the insect
and fungus resistant qualities, we do recommend using a specialized wood
sealant. The product we recommend is "ABR New Deck Finish" and
"ABR X-100 Sealer" which leaves a honey golden tone much like that of cedar. Sealing
your sundeck or porch with this product will avoid most of the bleaching out
or graying that occurs to the wood surface caused from the sun's rays. It
will also minimize surface cracking, shrinkage, and warping caused from
accelerated drying of the wood. By adhering to the following recommendations, your sundeck or porch will maintain the majority of it's
original blond color and tight jointry:
1. On new wood, the "ABR New Deck Finish" must be used. We recommend the
Cedar Tone Gold color as it gives the deck a deeper pigment which protects
better against UV Rays. Apply one coat on vertical surfaces and two coats on
horizontal surfaces. Application must be with brush and roller. It is not
necessary to seal the under side of the deck or the under side of the porch
roof.
2. One year later, clean the deck with "ABR X-100" by mixing the cleaner
with water as indicated on the can and spraying it onto all wood surfaces with a pump-up garden sprayer. Let the cleaner set for 10 - 20 minutes and
then lightly scrub with a stiff bristle broom and then rinse off with a hose. If the deck is extremely soiled or gray, a power wash may be necessary to remove the cleaner and soil. Let the deck dry completely, then apply
"ABR X-100 Cedar Tone Gold" sealer to the deck. Again, one coat on verticals, and
two coats on horizontals. This sealer is longer lasting than the "New Deck" sealer and will only need to be reapplied on horizontal surfaces every two years and vertical surfaces every four years. Extreme sunlight exposed decks may need to be washed and resealed every one to one and a half years.
ABR products may be purchased at:

Sealer costs are about $36/gallon and $136/gallon
SCREEN DOORS
Although these doors are factory sealed, they are not pressure treated wood and all wood surfaces should be sealed with the "ABR"
sealer immediately and at least once each year.
TREX
Trex materials require no sealing or UV protection. Occasionally, new
light-black streaks may be present on the surface. This is a mildew that
comes from the manufacturing process. If your Trex has black streaks, it
will fade out in time. If you wish to remove it immediately, a Sodium
Hypochloride deck wash (we recommend Olympic Brand) will take it off. As necessary to keep clean, power washing or scrubbing with a mild detergent will keep your Trex looking good.
Many of our projects are stained solid colors (mostly white). If this type of finish is included on your project, no wood sealant is necessary. Once the wood sealant has been applied, no stains can be reapplied for at least one full year.
