| The Process
Step 1: Decide on Use and
Function
The first step our clients should take
is to decide how they would like to change the looks and function of their
outdoor space. Define special needs such as more shade or sun,
special views, insect control, privacy issues, integration with existing
or future landscaping, and access to the yard. Think about which
rooms to the house you would like to have access from. Don't forget,
it's an easy process to remove a window and add a new door. It may
improve traffic flows to and from the new outdoor space. Your
outdoor space should have similar functions to that of your breakfast room
and family room, only in an exterior application. To finish a
project so it looks like part of the house uses architectural styles that
compliment those of your existing home. Taking these steps will
insure a design that opens up your backyard to your home and makes your
new project feel like it was part of the house.
Step 2: Meet with the
Designer: Jim Craig or Reuben Kemp
Now that you have your ideas in place,
it's time to meet with Jim or Reuben. One of them will come to your home to take
measurements and discuss general space parameters. Window and door
locations at basement and first floor levels are very important in
planning your project. Roof styles and pitches, heights of doors off
the ground, and travel direction of the sun are some of the things Jim or
Reuben will observe.
Step 3: Design
Once the outdoor evaluation is complete,
your kitchen table becomes the design studio. A laptop computer with
over 500 digital photos of our projects will help you visualize the
possibilities! Once a design has been mentally created, we will draw a floor plan using
our 17 years of experience as an outdoor leisure space planner.
Dimensions, shapes, traffic flow locations, and architectural styles will
be decided. An itemized estimate will allow you to see where all the
costs are and make it easy to value engineer your project if necessary.
Step 4: The Contract
Once the project design and bid phases
are complete, a contract is drawn up. Important issues like
specifications, payment terms, start and finish dates, licensing and
permits, and warranties are discussed. The designer will also put together a
Homeowners Association design package to make your application process
with the H.O.A. easy.
Step 5: Build
During the building process, your crew
will pay close attention to detail and quality workmanship to provide you
with your outdoor leisure space that is beautiful and comfortable.
From beginning to end, we will make your home improvement project one of
the most pleasant experiences you will ever have !!
